Male Infertility
Difficulty conceiving is a shared concern for both partners, and in about half of cases there is a contributing male factor. The good news is that many of its causes are treatable.
When do you need it?
- One year of marriage without pregnancy despite regular intercourse (or 6 months if the wife is over 35)
- A semen analysis showing low sperm count, motility or abnormal morphology
- Varicocele or heaviness in the testicles
- Erection or ejaculation problems
- Previous surgery or infections in the genital area
How does the treatment work?
- Confidential consultation with a full medical history
- Semen analysis (after 2–5 days of abstinence), plus hormone tests and scrotal ultrasound/Doppler if needed
- Treating the cause: lifestyle changes, treating infections, hormonal therapy or supplements depending on the case, or varicocele surgery
- Follow-up with a repeat semen analysis after 3 months
When will I see results?
Sperm production takes about 3 months to renew, so the effect of any treatment is measured with a semen analysis after 3 months.
How to prepare for your visit
- 2–5 days of abstinence before the semen analysis
- Bring any previous test results for both you and your wife
- You can book using your first name only
Important tips
- Smoking, excess weight and high heat (such as a laptop on your lap) can affect semen analysis results
- Don't take hormones or performance-enhancing supplements without a medical consultation
- A single analysis isn't enough to draw conclusions — sometimes we repeat it
Frequently asked questions
Does the semen analysis need to be repeated?
Sometimes — results can be affected by heat, illness and the abstinence period, so if there's an issue we repeat it to confirm.
Does varicocele surgery make a difference?
In selected cases, varicocele affects semen quality and surgery improves the results — this is decided after examination and a Doppler scan.
Is the consultation confidential?
Yes — all details are kept strictly confidential.
